Acid Reflux
Acid Reflux is a condition that is caused by an esophageal hiatal hernia.
What is an esophageal hiatal hernia?
The esophagus is the muscular tube that extends from the mouth to the stomach. This tube extends through the diaphragm which is a flat muscle separating the heart and lungs from the stomach and the intestines. The hole that the esophagus goes through is called Hiatus. The esophagus attaches to the stomach underneath the diaphragm. There is a circular muscle called the Lower Esophageal Sphincter whose purpose is to keep the stomach juices from backing up into the esophagus.
Posture- Bending over or slouching can cause the stomach and intestines to push up against the diaphragm and push some of the lower abdominal contents up in to the hiatus which seems to get trapped and will put pressure against the esophagus. The esophagus is a muscular tube that has a peristalsis motion to push the food down the esophagus. When you squeeze the lower end of the esophagus with the peristalsis action of pushing downward you can get a severe pain located at the bottom of the sternum. This pressure can be constant or it can seem to come and go. It can feel like you have a bump at the sub sternal area and it can also make you feel like you have a lump in your throat. This lump feeling won’t let you swallow and it doesn’t feel like anything can come back up either.
If you are having these symptoms or issues, doc has a non-medicine technique to push the intestines back down and relive the pressure and pain which in turn can get you off of the medication. Please call and see what we can do to help!
